Samantha Casella is a distinguished filmmaker with a diverse portfolio that spans short films, documentaries, and feature films. Her journey in the film industry began with formal education in screenwriting, directing, and acting in both Italy and the United States. Her passion for storytelling quickly translated into successful projects.

Casella’s early works include notable short films and documentaries such as Mediterraneo, which was presented at the Venice Biennale, and Via Crucis al Pantheon, a documentary exploring the creation process of the Via Crucis installed at the Pantheon in Rome. Another significant work, Self-portrait with Pope, documented a gift given to Pope Benedict XVI.

In 2019, Casella directed the short film I Am Banksy, which premiered at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles during the Golden State Film Festival. The film received critical acclaim, winning Best International Short. In 2020, she directed To A God Unknown, a short film that won 228 awards at international festivals, further establishing her reputation as a talented director. Casella also demonstrated her versatility by receiving several best actress awards for her performance in the short film The Antithesis of Love. Casella’s debut feature film, Santa Guerra, was previewed at a special event during the 79th Venice International Film Festival.

The film’s success was evident as it secured over 600 awards at festivals across 55 different countries. This achievement solidified Casella’s status as a prominent filmmaker on the international stage.

Looking ahead, Casella’s second feature film, Katabasis, is set to be released in 2024. She not only directs the film but also takes on an acting role, showcasing her multifaceted talents within the industry.
