Unveiling the Vision: The Journey of Moe Taylor and BrainDagger Films

In the ever-evolving landscape of filmmaking, certain voices rise above the rest, echoing profound messages that transcend the ordinary. One such luminary is Moe Taylor, the visionary founder of BrainDagger Films, whose cinematic odyssey is as captivating as the documentaries he crafts. From humble beginnings as a farm boy in the backwoods of North Carolina to international acclaim, Taylor’s trajectory is a testament to the power of storytelling and the relentless pursuit of truth.

Taylor’s journey into the realm of filmmaking was not a conventional one. Having honed his craft at the Colorado Institute of Art in the late nineties, Taylor’s summers were spent immersed in the breathtaking landscapes of the National Parks. At Mount Rainier, the Grand Tetons, Lake Powell, and Keystone, Colorado he practiced his photo and video skills by capturing moments of raw beauty amidst some of the finest backdrop of America. His passion for visual storytelling led him to unexpected avenues, including a career in the Navy as a journalist, where he garnered prestigious accolades such as the Thomas Jefferson Award, the highest honour in military journalism. He reported news stories in over 40 countries and varying conflicts. After that, he continued on as a producer at NBC before retiring into freelance work.

Venturing beyond the confines of traditional media, Taylor’s career took him on a whirlwind adventure across the globe. From producing documentaries on bare-knuckle boxing in Thailand to capturing the essence of local communities in Belize, Taylor’s lens captured the raw essence of humanity in its myriad forms. His nomadic spirit eventually found solace in creation of his own production studio. Taylor founded BrainDagger Films in 2018 and embarked on a mission to challenge societal norms and ignite conversations about tolerance and understanding.

His work consists of a myriad of projects from music videos to comedic sketches, charitable fundraisers and whatever comes across his plate. However, Taylor’s bread and butter is his ten-part docu-series on science, philosophy, and understanding your fellow man and the world around you titled Knowledge is Good. With his first film, As Organism, he discusses the nature of existence from the subatomic scale all the way up to the observable universe. Its premise: how understanding the world around you can help you treat your fellow man with more kindness.

His second film, The Importance of Strange Perceptions, embarks throughout Costa Rica and various ayahuasca ceremonies to discuss the power of psychedelics and various viewpoints. His current project, The Glorious Spectacle of Human Programming, aims to explain human nature and why we fight and argue about the most basic and nonsensical things to the point of violence, murder and war. Misinformation could be said to have caused more death and destruction than anything else in the history of mankind.

With over 65 film festival wins and nominations in over 50 events, Taylor’s impact on the cinematic landscape is undeniable. His next endeavour, a documentary on body dysmorphia, promises to push the boundaries of visual storytelling, incorporating innovative techniques such as a flash mob of naked individuals running at full speed for slow-motion sequences—a poignant reminder of the diversity of human bodies and the importance of self-acceptance.

Taylor prepares to unveil his latest venture, The Puerto Aventuras International Film Festival, alongside his esteemed collaborator Dewey Paul Moffitt. The festival, founded by Taylor and Moffitt, stands as a beacon of creativity and innovation, celebrating the transformative power of cinema to inspire, educate, and provoke change.
