Written and directed by Roberto Sanchez, ‘Heroes’ is an action drama short film that stars Roberto Sanchez, Caleb Martinez and Bryson Robinson.
Rigo is the new kid in town and he finds himself being repeatedly bullied by some of the local kids. On one such shakedown, Rigo takes refuge in the shop of an old man who sells comic books. Taking pity on the kid, the old man takes him under his wing, but fate has in store a traumatic event for the duo. One which will make them recalibrate their life choices. As Rigo goes down the rabbit hole, he is in for a shock. Superheroes might be real and he is about to meet one soon.
Heroes is exactly how superhero movies should be; inspiring, mysterious and a whole lot of fun. Roberto Sanchez structures the film in a way that we the audience find ourselves in Rigo’s shoes as he discovers a new world around him. The protagonist is a kid, down on his luck and alone, and through sheer chance, he is about to discover something that will change his life completely.
In the acting department, Roberto Sanchez and Caleb Martinez bring life to their respective characters with depth and poise. Martinez is perfect as the confused protagonist while Sanchez is perfect as the grizzled old man who will never give up. Together, the two embark on a transformative journey, one that will take them beyond their wildest dreams.
The narrative pacing is on point and at no moment does the film feel dragging. Sanchez ensures the editing remains brisk; the story needs to move along at a fast enough pace that the audience remains invested. In regards to the sound mixing, the film does its job well. The score, both inspiring and epic, adds a new layer to the narrative whilst the visual effects are a sight to behold. The technical aspects are on point and they complement the narrative aspects perfectly.
‘Heroes’ is good, ‘Heroes’ is fantastic and Heroes will inspire you. Roberto Sanchez’s short, soars up and above, as it tries to put its own spin on the superhero formula. The acting is great, the story is heartfelt and the final twist will blow your socks off. Since the film ends on a cliffhanger, we can’t wait to see what part 2 will look like. We loved the film and give it four stars out of five.
