Early Inspiration Behind the Camera
Medina’s fascination with filmmaking began during childhood after watching a short Super 8 film created by his teacher and classmates. Inspired by the experience, he purchased a used Super 8 camera, projector, and screen from a woodshop teacher while still in seventh grade. Using family members as actors, miniature toys as props, and handmade costumes, he created his first short film, a three minute remake of King Kong filmed in his family’s basement.
Those early experiments introduced Medina to the power of visual storytelling and creative problem solving. Long before entering professional entertainment, he was already learning how to build cinematic moments with limited resources. His passion eventually led him to study television production at the Center for Media Arts in New York City, where he trained in directing, lighting, sound, camera operation, editing, and writing for film and television.
Overcoming Challenges Through Persistence
Before establishing himself in the entertainment industry, Medina faced periods of homelessness while pursuing opportunities in Los Angeles. Living in his car while continuing to work toward creative goals became part of a larger story of determination that later influenced his artistic perspective and work ethic.
Prior to filmmaking, Medina dedicated much of his youth to boxing and eventually became a state champion professional boxer with an opportunity to compete for a world title. The discipline, endurance, and mental focus developed through sports naturally carried into his work behind the camera, where independent productions often require adaptability under pressure and the ability to lead creatively despite limitations.
His journey reflects more than professional ambition. It highlights the importance of persistence, self belief, and the willingness to continue creating despite uncertainty. Those qualities would later become central to the way he approached filmmaking and collaboration.

Building an Independent Film Career
One of the defining moments of Medina’s filmmaking career arrived with El Matador, the independent feature film he wrote, produced, and directed on a budget of only $15,000. Despite limited resources, the project demonstrated strong visual storytelling and ambitious production value, proving Medina’s ability to make small scale productions appear far larger on screen.
The film swept the 8th Annual East Los Angeles Chicano Film Festival, earning awards for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Acting. Following its festival success, the project secured distribution through Maverick Entertainment and became a strong performer within its genre. The achievement established Medina as an emerging voice in independent cinema and highlighted his ability to balance creativity with practical filmmaking leadership.
Throughout the years, Medina expanded his work into music videos, television pilots, comedy specials, and live productions including Cholo Comedy Slam and Latin Palooza. These projects blended comedy, performance, and cultural storytelling while attracting sold out audiences and industry attention.
Expanding Into Television and Comedy
Beyond filmmaking, Medina developed a successful career in radio, television, and stand up comedy. As Morning Show Host and Executive Producer for KXOL Latino 96.3 FM in Los Angeles, he created original sketches, developed recurring comedic characters, interviewed celebrities, and helped increase the station’s ratings and visibility.
His television work included Circumsized Cinema for Si TV, a creative series that transformed classic Mexican films into comedic English language mini movies using newly scripted dialogue. He also became recognized through projects such as Loco Comedy Jam on Mun2, where he worked both as producer and host.
Medina’s comedy career expanded internationally through performances across the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. He performed alongside Russell Peters and appeared in The Original Latin Kings of Comedy with Cheech Marin, George Lopez, Paul Rodriguez, and Alex Reymundo.

Continuing to Create and Inspire
Today, Medina continues developing original projects while producing on the eighth season of a nationally syndicated game show. Across film, television, comedy, and live entertainment, his career reflects creativity, adaptability, and persistence. His journey remains an inspiring example of how passion for storytelling and dedication to artistic vision can create lasting opportunities within the entertainment industry.
