Zsolt Pozsgai, a distinguished writer and director from Pécs, Hungary, has carved an exceptional path in the world of independent cinema and theatre. His artistic journey began with a profound curiosity about life, which he explored through diverse roles such as ambulance nurse, car driver, bar singer, teacher, and postman. These experiences deeply enriched his storytelling perspective.

In 1988, Pozsgai’s first theatrical work debuted, marking the start of an extraordinary career in playwriting. Over the next three decades, he authored 114 plays, all of which were performed not only in Hungary but on international stages. His versatility and mastery across genres established him as a luminary in the theatrical world.

Transitioning seamlessly into film, Pozsgai directed his first feature in 2006. Since then, he has written and directed 17 films, showcasing his ability to captivate audiences with narratives that traverse a wide array of themes and styles. His films have garnered acclaim on the festival circuit since 2017, earning him hundreds of awards and culminating in a lifetime achievement award in Las Vegas.

In 2020, Pozsgai founded the Papa International Historical Film Festival (PIHFF), where he continues to serve as director, fostering a global platform for historical cinema. His commitment to the arts extends beyond creation; he actively contributes as a lecturer at universities and is a member of both the Indian and Persian Film Academies.

Despite his prolific career, Pozsgai values his family above all. His wife, a television editor, and their two daughters are his greatest treasures. A staunch advocate for creative autonomy, he identifies as an independent filmmaker, believing that inner freedom is essential to artistic integrity.
