Why Interstellar still feels so personal.

The human story at the heart of Christopher Nolan’s cosmic spectacle.

Interstellar looks toward the farthest reaches of space, but its emotional pull begins much closer to home. The distance that matters most is the distance between people who want to find one another again.

The scale of a feeling

That tension gives the film two ways of holding our attention. We can follow the grandeur of the journey, or the private cost of taking it. The images open up the universe while the relationships make that universe feel personal.

A return viewing offers room for both. The spectacle remains, but a familiar scene can acquire a different weight depending on what we bring to it. That is one reason the film continues to invite conversation.
